The Council is responsible for collecting the Council Tax from all households in the area.


How you can pay your Council Tax

  • Direct Debit- this is the easiest way to pay-simply ring the Council Tax section for a direct debit form using the details above.
  • Post Office- You can use your payment swipe card at any Post Office. There is no charge for this service. Cheques should be made payable to 'Post Office Counters Ltd'
  • Cash or Cheque- you can pay at any of the Council's cash offices (see paying your bills web page for details of cash office addresses and opening times)
  • Debit/Credit card payment- you can pay by this method at all Council cash offices-by telephone and by post- see paying your bills for details of cash office addresses and telephone numbers

Banding

Each dwelling is billed for Council Tax, whether it is a house, bungalow, flat, maisonette, mobile home or house boat, and whether it is owned or rented. Each property allocated to one of eight bands according to it's market value on 1st April 1991. Properties in band D will pay the basic charge and properties in other bands will be charged proportionately.
