Create a New Portal from a Pre-defined Template A Portal Administrator may create a new portal from an existing template. She controls the portal's location in the portal hierarchy, its name, its URL stub, and its mission statement.

  1. The Portal Administrator navigates to the portal creation interface via the portal administration home page.
  2. She specifies a name for the new portal.
  3. She specifies a URL stub for the new portal.
  4. She optionally writes up a "mission statement" for the new portal.
  5. She clicks the "Create from existing template" button.
  6. She is presented with a list of templates and selects the one she wishes to use for the new portal. If desired, she can click the preview link of any template to visit a read-only version of that portal configuration.
  7. If there is a participant list associated with her template selection, she can check a checkbox which specifies whether or not all participants associated with the template should be included in the new portal.
  8. Finally, she finishes by clicking the "Create Portal" button.

A new portal is created, with the creating user named as a participant in the portal with administrative privileges, and with all application and portlet configuration copied over from the selected portal template. Participants may be copied as well.
