Procedure for requesting copies of certificates: birth, marriage and death

If you wish to obtain a copy certificate for a birth, marriage or death that was registered in enter council name you should apply by post or in person.

You will need to provide the following information:

  • The type of certificate you are seeking: birth, marriage or death
  • The name or names the certificate applies to
  • The date of the event
  • The place of the event
  • Any other relevant information that may help us to locate the certificate
  • A stamped addressed envelope would be appreciated

Fees

The cost of all standard birth, death and marriage certificates is £ enter amount We cannot issue a certificate until we have received payment. Cheques or postal orders should be made payable to enter council name

A shorter birth certificate is available for £ enter amount This shows the person's name, sex, date of birth and registration district of birth. The standard birth certificate also shows place of birth, parents' names and occupations of parents.

Overseas applicants are asked to send sterling cash, by registered mail if possible, or a cheque drawn in Pounds Sterling currency.
